5 questions to ask at the end of an interview to wow tech employers
Knowing the right thing to ask an employer at the end of an interview can be difficult. So, we have uncovered the best questions to ask at the end of an interview to help you stand out from the crowd.
You’ve made it to the job interview and have picked your outfit for the big day. But are you prepared for the end?
Asking the right questions at the end of an interview can be the difference between landing the job and not. It enables you to make a lasting impression on the interviewer and gain a better understanding of what the role entails.
With this in mind, here are five of our favourite end-of-interview questions to get you started.
The best end-of-interview questions
1. What are the biggest challenges facing the company right now?
This first end-of-interview question immediately shows the CTO or hiring manager that you want to make an instant impact from the start. As they explain the current situation, you can tell them how you can contribute.
You’ll also get a flavour of what your job will look like over the first few months at the company.
2. Are there any opportunities for further training and upskilling with this company?
This next end-of-interview question shows that you are keen to progress and acknowledges the fact that you are aware of the fast-paced development of the tech industry.
But more importantly, it allows you to probe employers about their commitment to upskilling and investing in your development. For example, are they willing to give you time to learn new programming languages?
3. What are the three main qualities you’re looking for in the person you hire?
In the competitive world of tech, you want to find out what skills it is that companies are hankering for.
If you secure the job, you will know exactly what the company expects from you and how you can push to succeed based on their desires. And if you don’t, you’ll walk away with an added bit of intel to help you with your next interview.
For extra brownie points, follow this interview question up with, ‘Which one of those qualities is typically the hardest for you to find?’
4. What would a typical day/week for someone in this role look like?
It’s a classic interview question. But an essential one, nonetheless. It allows you to delve a bit deeper into the role, see if it is right for you and uncover if the job description was true to its word.
Additionally, it indicates that you care about the quality and productivity of your day.
5. What new initiatives or changes are on the horizon for the organisation?
This is a great one to finish on as you will get the employer thinking.
A question like this shows that you are excited, interested and comfortable with change.
Employers love adaptability.
Like question number one, your motivation to make a positive contribution to the company will make a strong impression and show that you’re ready and willing to focus on the challenges ahead.
