The Opportunity

We're looking for an experienced Machine Learning Engineer to join a growing AI team developing intelligent systems that power a market-leading software platform. This is an opportunity to work across the full machine learning lifecycle, taking ideas from research through to production and delivering AI-powered features that have a tangible impact on end users.

The Role

As part of a cross-functional Product and Engineering team, you'll design, build and deploy production-grade machine learning and AI solutions. You'll work across everything from predictive modelling and intelligent search to agentic AI systems, owning projects end-to-end and continuously improving them through experimentation and data-driven iteration.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop and deploy machine learning models from concept through to production.
• Build predictive models that support intelligent decision-making using large-scale datasets.
• Develop and enhance search, ranking and retrieval systems to improve user experiences.
• Design offline evaluation frameworks, run online experiments and A/B tests, using data to drive continuous improvement.
• Build and evolve AI agent workflows capable of multi-step reasoning and solving complex real-world problems.
• Deliver production-ready solutions, including models, backend services, APIs and integrations with modern web applications.
• Collaborate closely with Product, Engineering and Data teams to translate business challenges into scalable AI solutions.
• Monitor, maintain and optimise deployed machine learning systems to ensure performance, reliability and ongoing improvement.

About You

We're looking for someone who combines strong machine learning expertise with a product-focused mindset and enjoys taking ownership of solutions from idea through to delivery.

Essential Skills & Experience

• 5+ years' experience designing, training and deploying machine learning models in production environments.
• Strong knowledge of both classical machine learning and deep learning, with hands-on experience using frameworks such as PyTorch.
• Excellent Python development skills, writing clean, maintainable production code.
• Extensive experience building LLM-powered applications, including Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG), AI agents, tool use, evaluation frameworks and multi-step reasoning systems.
• Experience evaluating model performance using offline metrics and online experimentation, including A/B testing.
• Working knowledge of TypeScript, Node.js and modern front-end frameworks such as React, enabling you to integrate AI solutions into customer-facing applications.
• A proven track record of delivering complete product features, taking projects from research and prototyping through to production deployment.
• Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to navigate ambiguity and prioritise effectively.
• A pragmatic, data-driven approach, using experimentation to validate ideas and drive decisions.
• German language skills at B1 level or above.

Desirable

• Experience building recommendation, search, ranking or pricing models.
• Exposure to embedding models, fine-tuning foundation models or large-scale model training.
• Experience working within marketplace, SaaS or other data-rich product environments.
