Agile Coach / Scrum Master (6-Month Contract)

Location: London (Hybrid – 3 days per week)
Contract: 6 Months
IR35: Outside

My client is looking for an experienced Agile Coach / Scrum Master to join their engineering organisation on an initial six-month engagement. This is a transformation-focused role where you'll help evolve delivery processes, improve cross-functional collaboration, and establish a sustainable operating model that enables the engineering teams to scale effectively.

The business already has solid Agile foundations, but they're looking to take their ways of working to the next level. The rapid adoption of AI-powered development tools, particularly Claude, has significantly increased engineering capacity, making the team feel much larger and accelerating software delivery. As a result, stakeholder management, planning and coordination have become increasingly important.

Your mission will be to help the organisation evolve its delivery practices by implementing the right processes, improving predictability, and ensuring the engineering teams can continue to operate effectively as AI accelerates software development.

This isn't about introducing Agile for the first time—it's about refining and enhancing an existing framework to support a faster-moving, AI-enabled engineering organisation.

What You'll Do

  • Assess the current Agile delivery practices and identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Design and implement scalable delivery processes that support a growing engineering organisation.
  • Facilitate and coach teams through Agile ceremonies, including stand-ups, sprint planning, backlog refinement and retrospectives.
  • Help engineering teams become increasingly self-organising and accountable for delivery.
  • Improve collaboration and communication between Engineering, Product and key business stakeholders.
  • Reduce coordination bottlenecks and introduce clear ownership across teams.
  • Coach leaders and engineers on effective stakeholder management as engineering capacity continues to grow.
  • Champion the company's Dual-Track Agile and Continuous Discovery approach, ensuring teams develop the discipline to sustain it over the long term.
  • Leave behind a lasting delivery framework that enables the organisation to continue operating effectively once the engagement has concluded.

What They're Looking For

  • 8+ years' experience in Agile delivery, with a strong background as an Agile Coach or Scrum Master.
  • Demonstrable experience implementing or transforming Agile processes within high-performing software engineering teams.
  • Strong stakeholder management skills with experience working across Engineering, Product and senior leadership.
  • A pragmatic approach to Agile, you know when to apply process and when to simplify it.
  • Experience identifying delivery bottlenecks and improving planning, forecasting and execution.
  • Excellent coaching and mentoring skills with the ability to build autonomous, accountable engineering teams.
  • Experience working within AI-assisted software engineering environments, or a strong understanding of how tools such as Claude, GitHub Copilot or Cursor are changing software delivery.
  • A genuine curiosity about AI and its impact on engineering, combined with the judgement to recognise where it adds value and where traditional delivery practices remain essential.

What Success Looks Like

By the end of the engagement you will have:

  • Implemented a delivery framework that supports significantly increased engineering throughput.
  • Improved stakeholder communication and delivery transparency.
  • Embedded consistent Agile ways of working across engineering teams.
  • Reduced coordination overhead by enabling Engineering and Product teams to collaborate more directly.
  • Established a sustainable, scalable operating model that continues to support the business long after your contract has concluded.

This is an excellent opportunity for an Agile Coach who enjoys helping engineering organisations evolve and is excited by the challenge of enabling high-performing teams in an AI-assisted software development environment.
