About me
Hi, I'm James. I got into recruitment after moving to Bristol, following two years living in Melbourne. I’d always worked in people-focused roles, so recruitment felt like a natural fit - I’m genuinely interested in people, where they’ve come from, what they want to do next, and how I can help them get there.
I’ve spent the last eight years in recruitment across a few different sectors, but cyber security is where I found my thing.
Since then, I’ve helped people break into the industry, built cyber teams across retail, insurance and financial services, and supported professionals from underrepresented backgrounds into leadership roles.
One of the things I’m proudest of is helping to organise an Internet Safety Awareness Day for Bristol’s deaf community. Traditional security awareness often overlooks accessibility, so working with people across the cyber community to create something specifically designed for a deaf audience was pretty special.
My approach to recruitment is simple: be transparent, be honest and do the right thing. I’m much more interested in building relationships that last than chasing a quick win.
Outside work, you’ll usually find me in the gym, playing five-a-side, cooking, occasionally convincing myself I’m a hiker, or pointing out every cute dog I see to my partner. I’m also very Irish, love getting back home whenever I can, and will happily take any excuse to be by the sea.
Oh, and I speak Irish Sign Language - which is definitely one of my better party tricks.
